Directs the development, implementation and monitoring of the Safety Management program in providing a safe environment for the patients, visitors, employees and others at WVU Medicine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or Industrial Hygiene.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Five years experience in Hospital Safety

1. Master's degree.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Prior managerial experience preferred.

1. Operational oversight and fiscal responsibility assuring the department maintains a high level of efficiency and fiscally responsible practices.
2. Assures compliance with local, state and federal safety laws and regulatory requirements, such as NFPA, OSHA, and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services.
3. Maintains a current understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements impacting safety in the healthcare environment.
4. Works effectively with the Safety Committee and various hospital departments to identify situations where the hospital may be out of compliance with regulatory requirements
5. Assures that the Safety program provides compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and codes of standards.
6. Maintains an effective system of surveillance covering all areas of the Hospital to identify safety hazards.
7. Works effectively with the Hospital's Safety Committee and the various hospital departments to identify and investigate potential hazards and safety practices that raise safety management issues to be addressed by the Safety Committee, and to implement Safety Committee recommendations and monitor the effectiveness of the changes. The results of such monitoring are reported to the Safety Committee.
8. Develops and maintains an ongoing methodology for insuring continued detection of safety hazards and regular communication of this information to the Safety Committee.
9. Effectively communicates safety management issues on a regular basis to the governing body, administration, and hospital departments.
10. Works to correct any conditions that present a hazard to the safety of patients, visitors, employees or others at WVU Medicine.
11. Works effectively with the Safety Committee, medical staff, hospital administration and the various hospital departments to correct any conditions that present a safety hazard.
12. Works effectively with the Safety Committee, medical staff, hospital administration and the various hospital departments to help prevent the reoccurrence of the conditions that presented a safety hazard.
13. Acts as a resource for all departments on safety related issues.
14. Develops organizational wide safety policies and procedures.
15. Formulates and provides information/recommendations in response to specific departmental and/or employee requests associated with the safety management program.
16. Facilitates general safety orientation for new employees and actively participates in continuing Occupation, Safety & Health education for all employees.
17. Coordinates regulatory agency surveys and inspections of WVU Medicine.
18. Accompanies where appropriate, or is available to, surveyors/inspectors that are on the premises of WVU Medicine to assist in answering their questions and concerns.
19. Assists hospital representatives in meetings, hearings, or negotiations with regulatory agencies that arise out of surveys or inspections by these entities.
20. Supervises and coordinates the activities of Safety personnel engaged in the preparation of training materials, record keeping and other related duties.
