We are committed to making a difference for our neighbors, friends, and family and our vision is to be a trusted, nationally-recognized leader of innovative, collaborative community health.    Employment Status: FULL TIME Working Hours: Regular Hours - 5:30 am - 2pm, every other Saturday Monday - Friday, every other Saturday required Shift: First Shift Position Reports to: Operations Manager   POSITION SUMMARY: The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, espresso beverages, teas, and other drinks while providing friendly and professional customer service. The Barista maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area and follows all food safety and sanitation standards. .   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Prepare coffee, espresso, specialty beverages, teas, and other menu items according to established recipes and quality standards.
  •  Operate and maintain coffee machines, grinders, blenders, and other beverage equipment.
  • Provide courteous, efficient, and professional service to customers.
  • Take customer orders accurately and process payments when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the beverage station, counters, equipment, and surrounding areas.
  • Restock coffee, beverages, cups, lids, condiments, and other supplies as needed.
  • Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Monitor product quality and freshness and report shortages or equipment problems to the supervisor.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning and preparing the work area.
  • Work cooperatively with kitchen, dining, and other food service staff.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and standards always.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
  • Attends allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
  • Complies with all HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  •  Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:
  • Previous barista or food service experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and food safety procedures.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Must maintain a clean and professional appearance.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred Previous barista or beverage preparation experience is preferred; training may be provided. Previous experience in a coffee shop, café, restaurant, food service, retail, or customer service environment preferred but not required. Experience working in a hospital, healthcare, or institutional food service environment is a plus. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Provides friendly, courteous, and professional service to patients, visitors, employees, physicians, and other customers.
  • Ability to prepare coffee, espresso beverages, specialty drinks, and other food and beverage items according to established recipes and standards.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate coffee and espresso equipment, blenders, warming equipment, cash registers/POS systems, and other food service equipment.
  • Ability to accurately process customer orders and payment transactions.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy when preparing customer orders.
  • Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, hand hygiene, and infection prevention practices.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, sanitary, and visually appealing work area.
  • Ability to monitor and replenish beverages, food products, paper goods, and other café supplies.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple customer orders and priorities.
  • Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with individuals of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Maintains appropriate professionalism, discretion, and awareness when working within a healthcare environment.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand instructions, recipes, product labels, safety information, short correspondence, and departmental procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, visitors, employees, physicians, and other customers.

Must demonstrate effective interpersonal and customer service skills when interacting with individuals throughout the organization, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

FOOD SAFETY AND SANITATION
  • Follows established food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention procedures at all times.
  • Maintains clean and sanitary counters, equipment, utensils, beverage preparation areas, and customer service areas.
  • Follows appropriate procedures for food storage, temperature control, product rotation, and prevention of cross-contamination.
  • Properly handles cleaning products and chemicals according to established safety procedures.
  • Completes required cleaning and sanitation activities throughout the shift and at closing.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions, food safety concerns, spills, or other potential hazards promptly.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands identified in the Physical Demands section of the job description are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is primarily performed in a hospital café, coffee shop, or food service environment.
  • The employee may frequently work around hot beverages, heated equipment, water, steam, and wet or humid conditions.
  • The employee may occasionally be exposed to cleaning chemicals, cold storage areas, electrical equipment, and other conditions normally associated with food service operations.
  • Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment must be used when required.
  • The noise level is generally moderate but may increase during periods of high customer volume.
  • The employee must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for a healthcare environment.
