Wilson Health is seeking a School Nurse to join our Occupational Health team at various locations in the Sidney City School District.   This position is as needed - some travel required to go to other school locations. Hours for this position are 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday FLSA Status: PRN   EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: ** Required: BSN - Registered nurse with a Baccalaureate degree or higher and valid state nursing license. Valid ODE license as a school nurse or willingness to obtain license or ODE registration within 3 months of hiring.   Key Perks and Benefits:

  Summary: Plans/implements a comprehensive school health service program. Student/staff assessment/treatment is limited to the evaluation of symptoms and administering emergency first aid. Duties may require traveling to buildings throughout the district and/or care as ordered per physician orders.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities Working in collaboration with the Sidney-Shelby County Health Department, the school nurse will perform the following essential duties:  
  • Provides school health services. Pursues ongoing program improvements.
  • Functionsꞏ Communicates program objectives/performance expectations to students/parents.
  • Keeps current with state standards/guidelines. Collaborates with staff, students, families and the community to delineate short/long-range school health service needs/opportunities..
  • Serves as the district's blood-borne pathogen compliance officer and staff trainer.
  • Prepares the school clinic.
  • Requisitions required supplies.
  • Implements procedures to ensure that all medicines are administered and stored safely.
  • Implements protocols to safeguard student information shared with staff and/or referral sources.
  • Assists sick and injured students/staff. Administers first aid. Investigates and documents injuries - Notifies parents or guardians.
  • Documents care given in timely manner. Prepares/submits Medicaid and/or equivalent reimbursement documentation within required deadlines.
  • Reviews medical emergency authorization forms. Ensures that permission forms are on file as needed for the release of health information. Communicates information to staff when required.
  • Ensures that all required state minimum student health screening activities are completed.
  • Ensures that the immunization status of all students complies with state law.
  • Prepares medical reports (e.g., census data, county/state health department, intervention assistance teams, pupil services, etc.).
  • Consults with student's doctor to make exclusion or school readmission recommendations.
  • Evaluates visual, hearing, or other student health concerns. Recommends medical referrals.
  • Consults with staff to facilitate the early identification of health risks.
  • Assesses student health conditions and develops nursing care plans. Coordinates in-service training for staff providing care for students with special medical needs.
  • Helps students monitor and manage acute/chronic medical conditions as needed.
  • Advocates for students. Pays attention to student demeanor. Draws out feelings/concerns.
  • Helps students better understand themselves, make appropriate choices and grow academically. Promotes cultural awareness, self-reliance, problem-solving, critical-thinking and creativity skills.
  • Facilitates student learning activities that encourage teamwork and positive peer relationships.
  • Supports grade-level curriculum implementation activities. Makes presentations when requested.
  • Serves as a resource for drug/harassment/violence prevention and related school safety activities.
  • Helps staff and families address student academic/behavioral concerns.
  • Assists with the multi-factored evaluation (MFE) process. Meets mandated paperwork timelines.
  • Initiates student/family referrals to community services (e.g., legal, health, social services, etc.).
  • Serves as a contact person for public agencies and an intermediary for parents/staff.
  • Works with administrators to ensure that program equipment is available/working when needed.
  • Prepares requisitions, maintains inventory records and monitors budget expenditures as directed.
  • Helps coordinate the Hepatitis B immunization program.

  QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:  
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  •  Adheres to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
  • Anticipates time constraints. Manages tasks efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures.
